Up until I joined the Raptor Runners, the furthest I ever ran in a single run was 6.2 miles (i.e. 10 k). This year I have been able to run nine miles and that is part of the 13.1 miles I will have to run. I am training to complete the Shiprock Half Marathon on May 2nd.
I’ve been running off and on for the past three years but this time it is a bit different. It is different because I have an one year old daughter, my wife has completed the Las Vegas Marathon, and I cycle 17 miles per day to work.
I am slowly discovering that running is the other half of my exercise regime. Running and cycling use different muscle groups and I use cycling as my full time cross training. This past weekend I was not only able to run the six miles but was able to run it faster than my last six miles three years ago. I can contribute that success to my bicycle.
This weekend is 10 miles, and it will be a new record distance, I'll see you on the trail.
